Biodiesel Testing

As seen in an earlier article on biodiesel production, the fuel can be made at home or in small batches. Due to this non standardized production methodology (stemming from non standardized inputs), there is a great need to properly test the biofuel before using it in any way. Biodiesel testing is used before putting it into engines so as to not damage the mechanism. It’s also vital in order to determine how best to store it. And finally, biodiesel testing can take place at every stage of the manufacturing process to test for errors and improve the overall quality of the final produce.

There are specialized biodiesel test kits that are used commercially to obtain a scientific assessment of the biodiesel output. However, there are also many tests that can be performed using regular procedures available to everyone. For example, to test for the presence of water in the biodiesel, it’s sufficient to judge the clarity by attempting to read through it if it’s a small sample. For larger samples, one can perform the test by seeing if one can view the bottom of the container.

Biodiesel testing will become more and more important as biodiesel becomes mainstream. Professional testing equipment will become cheaper and easier to use. This blog will keep you updated on the latest techniques of biodiesel testing.
